Case Study – Creating a bespoke Fire Prevention Course for Veolia

In April 2021 UK Fire Training were commissioned by Veolia to create a bespoke Fire Prevention and Containment training programme for their employees based at Veolia waste operated sites throughout the UK.

The Preparation

Veolia had established that traditional fire marshal and awareness training methods of fire management would not be suitable for its large hazardous sites and contacted UK Fire Training for some expert assistance.

The Creation

After an initial scoping session including members of Veolia’s Risk & Assurance and Training teams, we created a bespoke Fire Prevention and Containment course that combined classroom and practical learning.

The course was designed to be relevant to the fire risks and hazards associated with the learners own sites, how to stop them from happening and if they do so how to stop the fires spreading with the over-arching message of ‘safety first’.

The Delivery

In June 2021, UK Fire Training began the roll out of the training programme across a number of Veolia waste operated sites. The training has been well received by those attending with the common theme being that the training is well suited and relevant to their roles.

The content has also been repurposed for delivery to the workers at the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC’s) operated by Veolia and includes drone footage of the HWRC’s to fully engage the course participants.

The success of the training will be monitored by Veolia going-forward and we look forward to seeing the results.
