UK Fire Training is delighted to announce that we will be supporting the Antarctic Fire Angels throughout 2023 by committing to donate £5 for every course that is booked with us.
The ‘Angels’ are a team of 4 all-female serving firefighters who will be skiing 1,130KM from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole in November 2023. If that wasn’t hard enough they’ll be doing so unassisted and unsupported, pulling 85+kg supply sleds in temperatures as low as -50 and wind speeds of over 60 mph and all in 45 days!
Georgina Gilbert, Rebecca Rowe, Nikki Upton, and Rebecca Hinchley are hoping their achievements will help to inspire women and girls to achieve their ambitions by showing what women are capable of; as well as raising money for charity.
UK Fire Training’s Managing Director Jon Hughes said “every now and again you hear about a challenge that makes you sit up and take notice. When we first heard about the Antarctic Fire Angels and their expedition attempts, this was one of those moments. I can’t even comprehend what they are embarking upon, it is so awe-inspiring. The Fire Service is full of brilliant people and we are fortunate to work with some of those on a daily basis.”
Jon went on to say “The UKFT team just felt that we had to get on-board and support the Angels with their challenge and we look forward to supporting them over the course of the year. You never know, when they’ve completed their challenge and are taking life a bit more easier you may just see them delivering training for us”
Antarctic Fire Angels member Nikki Upton said “we’re so excited to be supported by UKFT – it’s brilliant to be recognised by such a prominent organisation in the fire community, as they clearly understand what we are setting out to achieve with our expedition“
