This is an IFE approved course and is designed for all staff, particularly those who have specific fire safety responsibilities (such as fire marshals, in addition to their specific fire marshal training). The course will also greatly benefit anyone who may need to operate fire extinguishers and other fire fighting equipment, the incorrect operation of which is ineffective and can in some cases be dangerous.
As with all our courses the fire extinguisher training we offer is based on the needs of your workplace as determined by your fire risk assessment, as well as your emergency procedures. The course will address all aspects of your risk assessment and ensure that you have the knowledge and understanding to carry out procedures as necessary.
Explains the fire safety regulations to which your workplace is legally required to adhere to. Covers either the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 or the equivalent guidance for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Discusses the need for a fire risk assessment.
Explains the science behind fire and how, based on the straight forward application of this knowledge in day to day work life, the chances of a fire occurring can be dramatically reduced.
Looks at the speed of fire development and smoke spread in different situations and how this can be affected by building configuration, combustibles, oxygen sources and other factors.
Considers how knowledge of the common causes of fires in different situations can enable staff to manage the risks appropriately and prevent an incident from occurring. Looks at causes ranging from arson to faulty electrical equipment and portable heaters.
Considers your fire action notice and what all staff should do in an emergency, in particular what they should do should they discover a fire to ensure their safety and the safety of their colleagues.
Covers the different classifications of fire and teaches delegates about the different types of fire extinguishers and fire blankets that exist for tackling each.
A theory session which teaches the knowledge staff need to have before they are ready to tackle a real fire, including which type of fire extinguisher to use for each type of fire and how to operate the device correctly and effectively.
Teaches staff how to operate a fire extinguisher with hands on experience. Ensures that should a fire break out in the workplace and a member of staff is at hand to extinguisher it, it will not be their first time operating a fire extinguisher. More information below.
All our fire extinguisher training sessions have a theory session and a hands-on session – our fire safety training expert will bring a range of portable extinguishers for you to use. A “live fire” practical using a gas simulator training unit can also be provided at an additional cost.
Our training is tailored to suit the needs of your company as identified in your fire risk assessment. If there are any other elements of training that you feel should be included in the training course, then please let us know and we’ll incorporate it into your sessions.
Note – Training will be relevant to the potential hazards identified in your workplace and the scope of the training will depend on your role. Training should take place during normal working hours and be repeated periodically. A ‘live fire’ practical will help create a more realistic session and will improve everyone’s learning experience.
*THIS COURSE INVOLVES PRACTICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING*
