A Fire Risk Assessment must be carried out in all non-domestic premises. Under the Fire Safety (Regulatory Reform) Order 2005 (in Scotland the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005), the "Responsible Person" must ensure compliance with the regulations. The assessment will identify risks that can be removed or reduced and will help decide the fire precautions that need to be taken.
The local Fire and rescue Authority will enforce the Order in most premises. Non-compliance can lead to prohibition notices and ultimately prosecution and fines. The Assessment must take account of all "relevant persons" including the public, contractors and the disabled. All "significant findings" should be recorded and a clearly prioritized "action plan" produced and acted upon.
The Order relates to all buildings and applies equally to charities, voluntary groups, churches, schools and paces of assembly. A series of 11 HMSO guides set out the requirements in all main sectors and contain practical steps that need to be takes to guarantee a safe and compliant workplace.
UK Fire Training has been providing Fire Risk Assessment services on a UK-wide basis for many years via our Assessor network. As well as smaller clients with single sites we offer a consistent approach to national contract customers.
