Fire Marshal Training for Large Bank

Our client is one of the largest financial services providers in the UK with over 2000 branches and more than 50,000 employees. To meet their legal obligations across the group, our client decided to contract out Fire Marshal training on a national basis. This would ensure consistency of training and administration for the separate business areas.

Following a tender process, UK Fire Training in partnership with St John Ambulance were selected for the initial 2002/2003 contract to train 3500 staff. This partnership allowed for courses to be delivered at St John’s UK-wide network of training centres.

Our client required that the course be built up around their own fire safety policy and procedures. It also had to gain the approval of decision makers within Facilities, Health and Safety and Training departments. The course had to take account of the range of business units being catered for and the diverse variety of building types they occupy which include small rural branches and modern multi-storey office blocks.

Having developed the course, UKFT carried out a national briefing exercise with its trainers, familiarising them with the bespoke syllabus and with the unique delivery, coordination and reporting structure of the contract. The St John partnership allowed for all bookings and venue arrangements to be made within their sophisticated national account management systems.

The unique contract structure allowed for prospective delegates to choose from 290 courses in 29 locations spread from Plymouth to Newcastle. To meet the contract deadline, a peak of 10 courses per day were run in multiple locations.

The success of this initial project lead to the award of the contracts until 2012 when UKFT formed a new partnership with British Red Cross training. This time 2000 delegates required training over a 12 month period. 500 courses were arranged in over 70 locations including England, Wales and Scotland.

Administration was simplified to allow for management reports and invoicing to be split by business area. In addition, the customised service agreement included;

  • Bespoke full colour delegate handouts
  • Extra delegate guidance via website link
  • Branded certification for delegates on the day of training
  • E-mail transmission of delegate information on the day of training

The new partnership has proved to be a great success.
