Caffyn’s is one of the longest established car dealership groups in the UK, opening its first garage over 100 years ago. It has dealerships across Sussex and Kent serving thousands of customers every year.
It now provides new and used cars from 12 sites across the South East for brands including Audi, Seat, Jaguar and Land Rover.
To comply with the law, Caffyn’s safety team take fire safety very seriously and contacted UK Fire Training in 2007 to set up a training plan across all dealerships. They recognised the need to protect staff and customers but also understood the high fire risk created by flammable liquids and gasses used in their workshops and service areas.
The initial contract was unique as Caffyn’s wanted bespoke Fire Extinguisher training delivered across multiple sites on a single day. This included the use of real fire via our gas simulator units. The correct extinguishers based on their hazards were to be used.
UK Fire Training deployed 3 trainers and agreed a demanding training programme to instruct over 230 staff in just 3 days. Training was carried out in safe areas of Caffyn’s sites and training commenced at 7.30am to fit in with work patterns. The training was completed and since 2007, we have been re-contracted to carry out the next cycles of training based on changing needs.
UK Fire Training have delivered Fire Marshal and Extinguisher courses to many more clients in the Motor sector including Porsche and Mercedes and have provided fire risk assessments and other consultancy services.
